Beam transfers
Next to clientside transfers, cargodrops and ship to ship
transfers, some elements in the VGA Planets universe can only be transferred
via friendly code-regulated beamtransfers. These
include money, torpedoes, fighters and even complete ships.
Ship Beam Transfer FCs
It is impossible to manually transfer money,
torpedoes or fighters directly to enemy or allied ships. Instead, transferring these resources is handled through beam transfer
friendly codes. The Host program checks all ships in order of ID, and executes
the beam transfers in that order. The planetary beam transfer 'beam
up money' is executed after all ship-beamtransfers are handled.
The following friendly codes cause ships to beam-transfer:
- "btt" - Beam Transfer Torpedoes. This will
transfer all torpedoes from that ship to all enemy and allied ships at the same point in space that have the same type of torp
tube and have room in their cargohold for the torpedoes. If multiple ships are
at the same location, torpedoes are divided equally. Both the transferring and
the receiving ship(s) may be cloaked.
- "btf" - Beam Transfer Fighters. This will
transfer fighters to all allied and enemy ships at
the same point in space that have fighter bays and room in their cargohold. If
multiple ships are at the same location, the fighters are divided equally.
Both the transferring and the receiving ship(s) may be cloaked.
- "btm" - Beam Transfer Money. This will
transfer megacredits to all allied and enemy ships
at the same point in space. If multiple ships are at the same location, the
credits are divided equally. Both the transferring and the receiving ship(s)
may be cloaked.
- "bdm" - Beam Down Money. This will beam down
all the ship's megacredits to the planet that it is in orbit around, no matter
who -if anyone at all- owns the planet. This can also be done from a cloaked ship.
There is no way to regulate how much money, torpedoes or fighters will be
transferred in a beam-transfer: all the money, torpedoes and fighters on the
transferring ship will be transferred as long as there is room in the
cargohold(s) of the receiving ship(s). Beam-transfers will not transfer anything
to your own ships. Ships don't need to have fuel onboard to perform
beamtransfers.
Give ship (using gsX friendly code)
Ships can be handed over to another race by giving the ship a friendly code of "gsX". In this case X corresponds with the
racenumber or -letter of the intended new owner: to give a ship to the Feds the
friendly code must be "gs1", to give a ship to the
Lizards it should be "gs2" and so on, "gsa" to give a ship to the Rebels and "gsb" to give a ship to the Colonies. The gsX
friendly codes only work if the person giving the ship away has a registered
version of VGA Planets.
For the ship to switch ownership, it has to be in the same position as a ship
of the intended new owner, and the receiving ship must have at least one clan
onboard. This clan will not be transferred, so multiple ships can be received by
the same ship. Both the receiving ship and the ship that is given away may be
cloaked. Since transferring cargo is handled before beamtransfers, it is
possible to transfer a clan to the receiving ship and give away your ship(s) in
the same turn.
Giving ships away happens in order of ship ID, from low to high. The ID of
the ship that is given away determines the order. A ship that is given away
using the gsX code will have it's mission reset to "exploration", but due to the
host order of actions it will still be invisible to enemies if the ship was
cloaked. The ship will also be able to move to it's waypoint while being given
away, speed and waypoint are not reset.
Planets Beam Up Money (bum)
A friendly code of "bum" set on a planet or base beams up
all megacredits from the planet to all ships in orbit that don't belong to the
owner of the planet. Effectively, a friendly code of "bum" makes a planet or base beam up all it's money to allied and enemy ships, including cloaked ships. If more than
one ship is in orbit then the megacredits will be split evenly between all the
ships. Each ship can hold a maximum of 10,000 megacredits.
To be clear on the exact order of things: planets beam up money after all ship beam transfers (including "btm" and "bdm") are executed.
