Planeteers Lament (A Ship With No Name)
by Chris Fry
(To the tune of "A Horse With No Name" by
America)
On the first turn when we started
I was looking at all the dots,
There were stars and ships and planets and things
There were white points with little rings
The first guys I met were the Colonies of Man
When I hyperwarped into their space
They shot my probe and as I watched it explode
A tear ran down my face
I’ve been through the Cluster in a ship with no name,
Searching for a planet in vain,
I’m trying hard to learn the rules to this game
This obsessions drivin’ me insane
La, La...
After 9 months, I found a planet that’s green
And about the right shape and size;
After 10 months, I found that I couldn’t leave
Cuz I had set it to COLONIZE.
And the minerals it made weren’t enough to upgrade
I cant win no matter how hard I try
You see I’ve been through the Cluster in a ship with no name,
Searching for a planet in vain,
My dumb friends got me into this game
This obsessions drivin me insane
La, La...
After a hundred turns, I’m a newbie no more,
And the Cluster is torn by war
There were stars and ships and planets and things
There are red dots within the rings
Warships battle amongst the stars of the night,
And on the planets were blood is spilled,
But alas, I wont be joining the fight,
Cuz I never figured out how to build...
You see I’ve been through the Cluster in a ship with no name,
Searching for a planet in vain,
I don’t think I can ever stop playing this game
This obsessions drivin me insane
La, La...
